Shadows silently follow the form across the snow,
And the crunching sound under feet feels familiar,
As step after step takes effort to go,
The heart remains open and thoughts roll over dreams.
While the mind drifts farther away from breath,
Fear knows no bounds and casts its weary eyes to the stars,
For often life proceeds a death,
And far away a beckoning echo draws a strength.
Rising from the frozen Earth,
Again to take another step,
Each leg to be placed in front of the other,
Reaching ahead and refusing the easy way out.
