The High Park Fire Near Our Home

I search the land,

I scour the skies,

For life has held

Many treasures that I

See every day

And in awe I love.

I do not travel as I once did,

Because my home is so beautiful,

And I love where I live.

Colorado is magnificent,

With its mountains and pines,

Its sunsets, and rivers that wind

All through the valleys

Which end up alone,

For this is the land that I call my home.

The wooded fires which threaten with rage,

Your home and your soul

Sometimes make it difficult to stay,

Yet those are the times

I tell myself, “Be still and silent,”

Because there’s no greater beauty,

When God extends His Hand.

Some hide underground,

Others will build their nests,

In the aftermath

When the Earth seems to rest.

Our place in Winter months.
